URBE AERO ACHIEVES SUCCESSFUL QUALIFICATION FOR ASCENT® XJ TRAINER™

First Italian Flight Training Organization obtains ENAC certification

Aero Friedrichshafen 2012, April 20th 2012 – Mechtronix Systems today announced the successful qualification of the Ascent® XJ Trainer™ installed at Urbe Aero’s flight training facilities located in Rome, Italy. The flight training device was inspected by the Italian aviation authorities, Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile (ENAC), and certified under EASA regulations as FNPT ll MCC. The unit closely replicates the flight deck and performance of a large commercial twin-engine jet aircraft and will be used to provide students with Multi Crew Co-operation (MCC) courses as part of Urbe Aero’s integrated ATPL program.

The unit will be the first of its kind to be deployed in the country, making Urbe Aero’s ATPL program very attractive for students seeking jet introduction before initial type-rating. It is of prime importance to the FTO to provide their students with a thorough training that will enable them to enter the world of commercial jets and become preferred candidates for commercial airlines.

Urbe Aero required a simulator designed for an efficient transition from an ab initio environment to a commercial environment: the Ascent® XJ Trainer™ perfectly fitted with their requirements.

Configured as a generic twin-engine heavy jet aircraft the Ascent® XJ Trainer™ also converts to a regional turboprop for greater and optimized training capability. The highly flexible FSTD offers exceptional FFS-like visual system fidelity via a 200° x 40° projected display and a Raster/xT Image Generator from RSI. Urbe Aero’s pilot students will experience the automated flight deck, systems complexity, handling quality and performance of a heavy jet featuring EGPWS, FMS, TCAS, and weather radar that come in Mechtronix advanced avionics package. The unit is also equipped with a lesson plan editor for scenario-based training, enabling the instructor to measure all students’ performances to the same criteria.
